To start off, see to it that the person is comfortable while lying down. Firm and soft are what you want when it comes to the surface on which they are lying down. If the massage-ee wishes to keep his or her shirt on, be sure that the shirt is made of a softer material to avoid accidental chafing and friction build up.

Begin with some standard rubbing. Using the enture flat side of your hands, rub gradually up from the lower back area toward the neck. This rub must have at least a little bit of pressure in it but don’t use your full massage pressure yet. Begin at the base of the person’s back and then glide your hands up the back then across the shoulders and then back down the back. As you keep doing this, make your loops smaller and smaller so that you are able to cover all areas of the back.

Try using the heels of your hands to generate good and pointed pressure. Using the heels of your palms to apply pressure, begin working in small circles at the base of the back on either side of the spinal column and then work those tiny circles out toward the person’s sides, up a little bit and then back across to the spinal column and upward until you have massaged the entire back.

Try to sit on one side of the individual who is getting your massage. Then, putting one hand on top of yor other hand, push into the back using your fingers. Begin with the spinal column and dig in steadily away from the backbone, across your back and then very lightly rub your hands back toward the backbone. Repeat this process as you work up the back and then do the same thing on the person’s other side.

Rub the spinal column. Beginning with the base of the spinal column, work your way up each of the sausage like sinews on either side of the backbone by rubbing in small circles with a couple of fingers or your thumbs. Knead each node at least five times each so that you can build up some friction. Massage one side of the spinal column and then the other.

Something that you have to bear in mind as you use these massage techniques is that it is good to re-relax the person between each part of the massage that you give. This means that after you’ve used one technique, do the basic rub that you used at the beginning of the massage for a few minutes.
